Traditional shuttle looms are expertly operated by hand to produce Shinto Towel’s Inner Pile Towel collection. Each towel is made with organic cotton and has two outer layers of neutral colored ethereal gauze with an inner layer of highly absorbent pile. The resulting towel is thick and lofty yet ultra-soft and light and is perfect for drying off after a bath or shower.

The Maker

Shinto Towel was established in Osaka, Japan in 1907. Their towels are characterized by their superior absorbency, luxurious softness, and a trademark handfeel that’s achieved through atozarashi, a post-weave refining process that removes all traces of starch, oils, and impurities from the fibers and results in an otherworldly fluffy texture. 

Care

Avoid pulling loose threads and instead snip them carefully with a pair of scissors. Do not use chlorine bleach. Wash with like colors, especially in the beginning. The texture may be affected by different washing machines and/or laundry soaps. Avoid the overuse of fabric softeners as this may damage the fibers and reduce absorbency. Pulling or snapping the towel lengthwise while wet can cause the piles (the loops in the toweling) to stretch, resulting in gaps in the material. Handle wet towels gently. For best results, washed towels should be hung to dry in a shady, well-ventilated area.
