Step out onto a hillside, where you are greeted with a clear blue sky and breathtaking views of nature. The air is fresh and crisp, and the sun touches your skin with its warmth. The scent of aromatic pine floats on a gentle breeze. Ahead is an open-air rotenburo bath, luminous under the sun and sky. As you slip into the mineral-rich hot spring water, you notice the sensorial experience of warmth on your body juxtaposed by the cool breeze touching your face. As you stare out at the magnificent view while breathing deeply, the combinations of water, sun, air, and sky rejuvenate and restore your body and soul.
Rotenburo Air is a fragrance for rejuvenation. Japanese yuzu citrus relaxes and brings positivity to the body and mind while wild orange replenishes, revives, and uplifts. A refreshing mix of conifers such as organic white pine and organic balsam fir refresh and revitalize. A touch of monarda flower relieves stress while the finest white frankincense from Oman reduces tension and encourages deep breathing.
For thousands of years, hot springs have been sought out by bathers looking to soothe their soul through a mentally relaxing and physically rejuvenating soak.
The Japanese Hot Springs Experience Set contains four individual use packets with each soak dedicated to a specific mineral hot spring bath: magnesium chloride, sulfur, magnesium sulfate, and sodium bicarbonate. Each soak is a deeply soothing experience and has its own distinct benefits rooted in traditional Japanese bathing culture. Each four-ounce packet contains 100% natural mineral salts and compositions, as well as essential oils and extracts. For an enriched mineral profile, each soak contains a trio of wild-crafted seaweeds from Japan: Hokkaido kombu, wakame fronds, and mekabu — the flowering bud of the wakame plant. These are known for their high mineral content and are traditionally believed to cleanse impurities from the body while aiding in relaxation and overall well-being.
Magnesium Chloride Hot Spring Soak: Known to heal and promote hydration of the skin. Helps the body retain heat. Deeply relaxing to the body and mind. Excellent for the relief of stress and stiff muscles. This soak utilizes hon nigari, aproduct of sea water from the Sea of Japan that is created during the sea salt drying process. These crystalline flakes are 99.9% magnesium chloride.
Magnesium Sulfate Hot Spring Soak: Traditionally used to heal cuts and bruises, these springs are known to be a toner to the skin through soothing, tightening, and moisturizing. Relaxes the mind and body.
Sulfur Hot Spring Soak: Detoxifying, incredibly soothing, and softening to the skin. This soak is a blend of mineral-rich Dead Sea salts and healing flowers of sulfur obtained from naturally occurring volcanic deposits. This soak has a faint, unique, elemental fragrance that is synonymous with Japanese hot springs. Sulfur springs are often an otherworldly milky white color due to the rich mineral content, as is the Sulfur Hot Springs Soak.
Sodium Bicarbonate Hot Spring Soak: These springs are popular among women in Japan and are known as "beauty waters." They have a softening effect on the skin and also aid in detoxification.
Decide on the hot springs soak that your body and soul need most.
Pause, shut your eyes, and set your intention for this ritual. Read the story of the fragrance that is on the slip of rice paper tucked inside each box.
As in the tradition of Japanese bathing rituals, shower first. This bath is for pure enjoyment and relaxation. Once the bath is full, pour in the contents of one packet and soak for at least 20 minutes. Shut your eyes, relax and breathe deeply. Be sure to remain hydrated by drinking water throughout and after the bath. Since this soak is extremely rich in minerals, we suggest allowing the bath water to remain on the skin without rinsing after your bath. When exiting the bath, get up slowly. Take a moment to ground yourself and hydrate by drinking a glass of water.
