Make New Year's Resolutions That You'll Keep

 New Years Resolutions

The New Year is a wonderful time for a fresh start. By setting goals and intentions we set a road map for the year ahead.

New Year's resolutions should be four things: realistic, challenging, inspiring, and fun.

Realistic: If you've never run a day in your life, don't set yourself up for failure by committing to run six days a week. Come up with goals that you can build towards and that won't overwhelm you. If working out is a challenge for you, commit to three days a week. You can always exceed your goal. Come up with goals that you look forward to doing – not ones that feel heavy or burdensome.

Challenging: Push your self a bit and commit to stepping out of your comfort zone. Know that it's not going to always be easy. Make a commitment to your resolution or goal that no matter what happens you'll continue.

Inspiring: Come up with resolutions and goals that make you feel alive and happy. If something like eating healthier is a goal – don't look at it as cutting out things you love. Look at it as a time to explore new ways of thinking and new health minded foods that you never would have tried before. Always find things that you can look at it in a positive light. For example, if your goal is to quit smoking, don't think about how hard this will be. Focus on how wonderful you'll feel when you can breathe easier and walk faster, etc. Always envision yourself as accomplishing your resolutions and goals while feeling joyous and radiant.

Fun: I always like to throw in a resolution that I am serious about but that is somewhat lighthearted. For example, one of my resolutions is to sleep on my back more. This is supposed to be much better for the aging of the skin. I didn't try this one last year but admit it's been a resolution for many years prior. If I don't achieve it, no big deal - it's not the end of the world. For whatever reason, the thought of this resolution makes me laugh.

I wish you a wonderful 2017 and hope that all of your dreams and goals come true. Go into this year knowing that you are unstoppable and that everything you want will be yours.

Always,
