Hot Springs: Japan's Beauty and Wellness Secret

From my first hot springs bathing experience, I was sold. I immediately fell in love with the concept and the incredible relaxation that hot springs provide. Hot springs bathing truly takes relaxation and well-being to another level. For thousands of years, the Japanese have turned to remote hot springs or onsen when they need to rejuvenate and relax. This is considered the ultimate getaway with adoration surpassing the Western view of the spa. "Hot springs are a chance to return to the self." Hot springs bathing is about simplicity. Here you will find relaxation through nature, minerals, and water. There are no body treatments, no massages, no music, or gift shops. Hot springs are a chance to return to the...

5 Life-Changing Japanese Beauty and Lifestyle Tips

I have learned so much from Japanese culture, in particular, Japanese women. Japan is a place where diet, mindfulness, art, and beauty all seem to merge into lifestyle. This is just a sampling of some of my favorite lifestyle perspectives that can easily be incorporated into your life. "Regardless of time, a soak is an end-cap to the day.  All women are at their best and most beautiful when they are calm and relaxed." On that note, I wanted to give my tips on preparing a bath that will make the process go from daunting to easy. Realize that preparing a bath only takes a few minutes of your time. Is it worth...

Enjoying an Evening Alone

I love my husband. He is my best friend in the world and I enjoy every moment we spend together. That said, when he's traveling, I do enjoy (and even look forward to) my alone time.  Following is my ritual for an evening alone. I hope this inspires you to take some time and treat yourself next time you have the evening to yourself. I look forward to this ritual every time. First, I make a dinner that requires little to no cleaning. I eat a very clean diet and I'm not really an "order-in" person, so I usually treat myself to an Amy's Organics rice crust pizza. The key is to keep it easy but delicious. Afterwards I'll have my...

How to Relax With Amayori's Aromatic Experiences

One evening about a year ago, I was taking a soak with Rotenburo Air Luxury Bath Salts after a very long day. I was trying to relax but I could not stop thinking about a huge to-do list that awaited me the next day. No matter what I did, thoughts kept creeping up until I had an unusual sensation – I didn’t want to think anymore. I relaxed deeper into the scent of Rotenburo Air. And then I remembered the story of the fragrance. I decided that rather than try to quiet my mind and suppress my thoughts, I would replace them with the story and image of Rotenburo Air – the outdoor Japanese bath in the mountains. Suddenly, I...
